Is Podcasting Still Worth It in 2025?
Introduction
Is podcasting still worth it in 2025?
Let’s talk about it.
If you’re here, I’m guessing you’ve thought or wondered something along these lines:
- “Everyone and their mother is starting a podcast.”
- “…should I start a podcast?”
- “Should I start a podcast, or a YouTube channel?”
- “Will my blog still get seen if I just rely on Google SEO?”
- “Maybe I should post more on Instagram/TikTok/YouTube Shorts…”
I get it.
We’re all inundated with thousands of advertising and marketing messages everyday (cite source here).
And, I suppose, I’m part of that – because I think you SHOULD start a podcast, and I’m going to tell you why it’s definitely worth it now and into the future.
In this blog post, you’ll learn some of the reasons why podcasting is the best marketing strategy for travel professionals right now.
You’ll even leave with a few tips for starting your own show.

Why Podcasting is a Great Marketing Strategy for Travel Professionals
There are a few reasons why podcasting is a great marketing strategy for travel professionals.
The Podcasting World is Still Pretty Untapped
Let’s compare some numbers first.
As of today, there are:
- More than 600 million blogs on the internet out of the 1.9 billion websites
- Over 114 million active YouTube channels
- A billion and counting TikTok accounts
Digital marketing has become incredibly noisy in general.
Compared to numbers like 114 million, 600 million, and a BILLION?!
Knowing that there are only 5 million podcasts already shows the value of having way less competition.
Consider the fact that, out of those 5 million podcasts, only about 700,000 of them are active?
And then, from that number, there are WAY fewer active travel podcasts??
You’ll have way less competition with a podcast in ANY niche.
But I know I’m talking specifically to travel pros.
This includes travel agents, travel coaches, tour operators, bloggers, travel writers, and everything in-between.
So, how does the competition look for people in the travel space?
More about that in a minute – but even from a quick Google search, you can see that there really isn’t a ton of competition.
Yes, there are the “big ones,” and it might be hard to outrank them for certain things.
But if you’re well niched down?
You can absolutely be at the top of your specialty, and become the go-to person for your destination, type of travel, or travel specialty.

Little to No Competition in the Travel Podcasting Space
In the travel niche, the podcasting world is wide open.
There are very few travel podcasts out there, which means you have a great opportunity to stand out from the crowd.
Consider further that most travel podcasts are destination-specific – which means, if your podcast is topical, you have an even better chance of having your podcast stand out.
If you’ve been discouraged by the content creation hamster wheel that is social media, I feel you.
You don’t need to fight to be seen heard in the world of podcasting.
Podcast Listeners Are Highly Engaged
People love listening to podcasts while they’re on the go, which means your content can reach a wider audience.
You’re not just reaching people while they’re glued to their phones, or when they’ve mentally checked out for the day.
Podcasting is intimate.
Your listeners will hear and get to know your voice.
They’ll come to know you, your personality, and everything you know about a particular place or topic.
When you’re strategic when it comes to what you talk about, and when you remember the 3 Cs of episode creation (content, consistency, and community), then you’ll come to be known for your “thing” – whatever that thing is.
Maybe you want to be recognized as a leading expert in travel hacking.
Perhaps you’re the best at finding and sharing error fares.
Or, you might want your listeners to think of you the next time they’re planning their vacation to Hawaii.
Either way, podcasting really helps you become known – both personally by your listeners, and “known” as in, “known for X thing.”
You become their go-to guide and expert.
Podcast listeners are loyal.
When you think about it, that’s a pretty incredible statistic.
And the fact that it’s grown so much between 2020 and now just shows the trajectory of where we’re heading with podcasts.
The field is growing.
Content marketing might not be the ONLY reason you’re looking to start a podcast, but it’s a really good one!
When you’re building a community, you want to reach people where they are (which, podcasting literally does), and you want to build that parasocial connection – where they really feel like they know you.
If they know and like you, then they can decide that they trust you.
And from there? They will buy your products, services, coaching, consulting, etc.
Podcast listeners are willing to respond and engage.
While it doesn’t take as much time and energy to produce a podcast compared to, say, a YouTube channel, there is an energy exchange.
Your listeners will experience this!
They’ll WANT to connect with you, assuming the content is good and created directly for them (more about the 3 C’s of podcasting – content, consistency, and community in another post!).
When you make it easy for your listeners to connect and communicate with you, it’s a great way to build a two-way conversation.
This will help inform you on the future freebies, paid offers, and content that you’ll want to create.
Long-Form Content Means Long-Term Value
Podcasts can be evergreen content that people can listen to again and again.
This means that your podcast can continue to attract new listeners long after you’ve published it.
This is HUGE, and it can’t be overstated.
While TikToks, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are becoming more searchable, podcast episodes have been indexed by Google for a long time.
Podcast episodes already come up in search results when travelers are looking for answers to questions, or learning about a destination they’re looking to visit.
And, when you combine a powerful podcast with strategic blog posts?
You increase your chance of visibility and Google search rankings by doing things like:
- Embedding podcast episodes into blog posts
- Using podcast episode transcriptions to create keyword-rich show notes
- Placing relevant podcast episodes under related Frequently Asked Questions
Social media works well with podcasting, so I’m not saying to eliminate it from your life or from your marketing strategy.
But when we think about the long-term returns in the future, long-form content does so much more for us and our businesses than short-form social media posts on their own.
Ideally, though, you’ll want to create a content ecosystem where your podcast, social media channels, and email marketing all work well together!
More on that another time, though. 😉
